Love

Love, a word we have been surrounded with since we were little.
Love, a feeling we all feel towards our family and friends.
Love, Its what can make a friendship in to something more.

The Oxford Concise Australian Dictionary defies the word love as -An intense feeling of deep affection or fondness for a person or thing. Sounds simple. Sounds almost perfect. Only one problem. How do you know your really feeling love?

Growing up in a household filled with books on psychotherapy and how the mind works. I read a lot when i got bored (day time television never really appealed to me, come on Dr Phil is a joke).

So anyway in my reading I not only discovered the magical world of personality disorders I also discovered the world of chemicals in the brain and the horrible truth of a lobotomy.
(A lobotomy is a form of psychosurgery. It consists of inserting a metal spike through the eye and destroying the prefrontal cortex.)
A lobotomy was performed as a behavior control. When performed "successfully" the victim could no longer feel the emotions of anger, love or empathy They no longer had any concern for others. Their self-insight, creativity, initiative, rationality, abstract reasoning, judgment, future planning, foresight, will-power, determination and concentration were all gone. Leaving nothing but a hollow shell of a human being. So anyway back to my point on love.
Is it really just an emotion that resides in our prefrontal cortex?
Or is it something more?

Though in all my thinking and blogging .
I realized one thing.
Love should not be questioned .
Love should simply be embraced.
We should not take something we hold so high and take it for granted.

Some say love is forever.
I say love is possible until you get a lobotomy.
